Yippee!! I’m back. 2017 was a funny old year for me. Full of behind the scenes work but feeling like I’ve not much to show for it. Sometimes you need times like that though, even if those times drag out to be a full year. It was pretty much a year of consolidation. 2018, however, is all about doing. I think that will be my word for 2018 : DO!
Last year I spent a lot of time honing in on what stirs my passion and makes me want to jump out of bed in the morning. What I’ve come to realise is that I love coming up with ideas – I’m an ideas person! Who would have thought? What I don’t like doing quite so much, is making the same things over and over again. Which is why a handmade Etsy shop isn’t where I want to focus my creative energy. What I am absolutely passionate about right now and have been practising a LOT over the past twelve months is calligraphy, hand lettering and watercolour artwork, and creating pieces for events, weddings and parties.
So my plan for this year is to get my art, design and lettering website fully up and running and hopefully taking on many more creative projects. This, I’ve realised at the tender age of 52, is where my passion lies. Spending my days creating beautiful pieces of art is where I’m at my happiest.
Of course that doesn’t mean that I have given up on this blog. I still enjoy my usual crafty hobbies. I will continue to share my craft tutorials and creative projects. Another of my current loves is creating miniatures. It’s a bit of a hobby my youngest daughter and I have taken to. Fortunately for me she has inherited my fascination with all things mini. If you’re interested in following along I’ve set up a separate Instagram account : @sewcraftyminis
I’ve finally got my cutting machines out of their boxes and have started using them regularly. Can’t wait to share the pieces I’ve been making. So many fun projects and ideas. If you have a Silhouette Cameo, Curio or Brother Scan N Cut machine I’ll have some great tutorials coming soon for you.
I will continue to add items to my shop space here at Sew Crafty Goodness and it will include my homemade one-off pieces plus Sew Crafty stationery, crafts and printables. I’m still in the process of uploading lots of stock and will be having a big sale in the not too distant future so keep a look out for that. If you’re into paper crafting, stickers, stamps, haberdashery, then you’ll find some cool bits and bobs at really great prices.
And on top of all this I’m trying to carve out some time each day to be creative – just for me. Even if it’s just a quick 15 minutes of me time, I want to get into a daily habit and I’ve tried a number of ways to do this. I love collage. I’ve been part of an online FB group for a couple of years – The Collage Club. Please join if you’d love to give collage a try or even if you’re a seasoned pro. It’s a supportive space for sharing, getting ideas and interacting with other creative types. Started by the lovely Shani of Rare Pear Studio. We have weekly prompts which provide a bit of a challenge and you can share your projects on a Sunday.
I also adore art journalling and am a member of the online group Get Messy Art Journaling. I’m hoping to find a bit more time this year to get actively involved with this group and to find my art journaling mojo. Back in the early days of this group I was quite focused and productive. I’m hoping to get back to that space. You can follow all of these endeavours plus the many other bits and pieces that grab my attention on my Instagram page : @sewcraftydeb
Phew! That’s me for now. I always feel like my working year starts in mid to late February. What with getting my youngest off to high school for the first time, my middle child going into year 11 and starting the serious senior years of schooling and the eldest off to Uni today (after having a gap year), I feel I can finally spend some time doing me stuff.
Here’s a little sneak peek from the the party I put on for my 12 year old littlest Baker junior. She had a pastel, unicorn themed party and it was loads of fun to create. This is the wall art I created for her photo booth area. More on this to come..
Hope your 2018 is off to a productive start. Tell me what you’ve been up to. See you next time. x
