For the last four years or so I’ve been running craft get-togethers and workshops in our township of Cooran, Noosa hinterland. It has morphed and changed over the years – been held at different venues, attended by old and new peeps, different days and times, changed format. But the motivation has always remained the same – to bring people together to connect over craft.
During the early days of my efforts to build community, I held it in our beautiful community hall. This was a divine venue and had an ambience and character that is difficult to find. However, once I moved into my shop space and was offered an area to do my workshops, I had to say goodbye to our town hall. The new workshop venue was wonderful because it was in the same building as my shop – no more lugging workshop supplies to and from home. Yay! Things were chugging along nicely, although the space was quite small, when the landlord decided to re-jig things a bit and the area I used for my workshops would no longer be available. However, being the wonderful landlord that he is, Malcolm created a new space for me to use and it is bigger and better than anything I’ve had access to before.
This new space is really special. It has something about it – a little bit magical even. Yesterday was our first get-together and it was an all round success. We chatted, we made things, we ate yummy treats (including my Mum’s now famous cream puffs) and drank lots of tea and coffee. And we talked about all the things we could use this new space for. Coming up will be : crochet, macrame, learn to sew, jewellery making and many more exciting workshops. I am beyond excited about the future. The space has so much potential and my mind is brimming with ideas. I want to thank everyone who has supported me so far and I look forward to all that’s to come. Welcome to our new space…
I’m really looking forward to spending more time in this beautiful, creative space. Just being there makes me want to do really good things. Next week we will be running the first of our crochet workshops. If you are interested head over to our ‘events’ tab and book yourself in. This is where you’ll find all the information for upcoming workshops and classes. Do you attend creative workshops? It’s such a wonderful thing to do. I’m looking forward to sharing more about this space as it evolves.
