Following on from my last blog post and the changes that are happening in my life right now, I figure it’s probably a really good time to do a “Taking Stock” post. This lovely idea was started by the always clever and helpful Pip Lincolne of Meet Me At Mikes fame. I think it’s a really brill idea. It’s a way of doing a bit of a stock take of your life right now. It’s helpful in that it highlights what the really good bits are and perhaps the things that aren’t going so great. You should try it. Fun and helpful. Win win!
Making : lots of crafty bits and bobs for my upcoming school stall.
Cooking : nothing terribly exciting. It’s too busy at the moment in our household so it’s just the standard family fare (think : lots of spaghetti bolognese)
Drinking : so … much … tea
Reading : Pip Lincolne’s “Craft for the Soul” – so good. I keep referring back to it. Especially during busy times like this. It keeps me mindful and grounded.
Wanting : to move somewhere new. Somewhere like this would be nice don’t you think?
Looking : at nature acting strangely. The birds and flowers around here think it’s spring.
Playing : with my new gouache paints and brush pens. Too much fun.
Deciding : where we are going? Really. We’ve had a couple of offers on our house and we are thinking about moving. But seriously don’t know where or when, or whether to rent for a while instead. Decisions.
Wishing : we could afford to go on more holidays. Getting away does wonders for my attitude in dealing with my day to day life. I feel renewed and more energised when I get back to the routine after going away somewhere new.
Enjoying : spending time with my growing kids. Not really kids any more. The two eldest are in such a new, exciting phase of their lives and I really enjoy talking to them about what’s going on in their world.
Waiting : to hear if my hubster makes it to the finals of the Excellence in Teaching Awards. He really, really deserves it.
Liking : spending time alone. After working in my shop and spending a lot of my time in the company of others, I am really enjoying my own company right now.
Wondering : if we’ll ever get the opportunity to move overseas. I really hope so. Life is going so quickly and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.
Loving : working on my new graphic design projects. It is my renewed passion.
Pondering : life, the universe and everything. I think as I’m getting older, I’m becoming even more philosophical than ever.
Considering : whether to buy or rent our next home.
Buying : nothing more than the essentials. Something else that is happening as I’m getting older is the need for less and less ‘stuff’.
Watching: repeats of the Office (the American one) didn’t think I’d like it at all and now it is a family favourite. Also, the Tour de France took over our lives again, as it always does at this time of year. And Escape to the Country because I’m a dag who fantasises about living in the English countryside.
Hoping : that my graphic design business really takes off.
Marvelling : at my youngest. She is growing way too quickly but she is such a delightful, energetic little bug. So much energy and enthusiasm for life. I wish I could bottle it.
Cringing : at the Abbott government. What’s new.
Needing : new clothes. Like really needing them. But I’m not a huge fan of clothes shopping, other than at Thrift shops. I quite like online clothes shopping too and am coveting some items on Modcloth and Boom Shankar.
Smelling : the wonderful smell of a freshly stoked fire and burnt marshmallows in our fire pit on a cold winter’s evening. Here are some of us:
Wearing : amazingly comfortable stretch yoga pants I found at Big W. I know I shouldn’t shop there but I was desperate at the time. I found these pants and my god, they are amazing. I went back and bought another three pair. I now live in them – seriously, all day and even to bed.
Noticing : that I am much happier when I am creating. I really need to make the time for it.
Knowing : that everything always works out in the end.
Thinking : about my upcoming milestone birthday. I can’t decide whether it’s something I want to celebrate with a big party, or perhaps just hide away somewhere and pretend it’s not happening. In my heart I’d like to do something special with my family. Maybe get away for a week – Melbourne would be nice.
Admiring : people who just get in and get stuff done without complaining or making a big deal out of it.
Sorting : the contents of my shop. I’ve finally moved everything home after fully closing my shop on the weekend and am feeling a little overwhelmed by all the stuff.
Getting : sad about the prospect of leaving the house (home) we’ve lived in for the past 12 years. Isn’t it funny how when you want to make a change and then that change looks like happening you suddenly get sentimental and don’t want it to happen. Sheesh!
Bookmarking : international school websites for the hubster to check. Hoping that one awesome job comes up in an exotic location and we can move the family.
Coveting : this dress from Boom Shankar for when the warmer weather starts, which will be soon enough in these parts.
Opening : lovely snail mail from my fellow sew crafty snail mailers.
Giggling : at myself and my ridiculous clumsiness. Especially my dysfunctional left hand that has a habit of dropping everything. I won’t tell you the story about the four litres of cooking oil all over the kitchen floor but I’m sure you have a visual.
Feeling : jealous of my brother and the exciting lifestyle he lives in London. Here is a little timelapse he made of his commute to work on his bike. It’s a little different to my slow meander to our local country primary school.
Snacking : on a newly discovered gourmet caramel coated popcorn.
Helping : our local primary school with the upcoming fete. I will be running a craft stall (of course!).
Hearing : the noises of the bush and again feeling sad and sentimental that we may be moving on.
So that pretty much sums up what’s going on in my life right now. Not terribly exciting but it is life. How about you? What’s happening in your part of the world? You could copy this list and do your own taking stock post. Or just let me know in the comments. Hope things are going swimmingly.
